Q&A With Dami Im + Exclusive Fashion Editorial

You have a very individual image and your own style of dressing, how important is identity to you?

I love dressing up and trying different styles. When it comes to fashion there is no limit so I love that.

Who is your go to Style Icon and why?

I love Rihanna's style ... She makes everything look great.

You were born in South Korea and came to Australia as a nine year old, what was you first impression of Australian style and fashion?

I came to Queensland and everyone seemed to love wearing little singlets and flip flops all year round!

I recently read an article in which Yumi Stynes describes her upbringing in Australia with only Anglo Saxon peers and celebrities. Growing up in Australia did you find it hard to find role models you could relate to?

I never saw anyone with an Asian background on television. When I became known through my music many people with immigrant backgrounds came and thanked me for making them feel more a part of Australia.

You represented Australia in the Eurovision Song Contest at Stockholm in 2016 and came in at 2nd place, a massive achievement! What made you want to go for it again next year?

I loved being a part of Eurovision - it was an unforgettable experience being on that stage so I wanted to feel that again, and also to go for Gold this time.

Since you won the X-Factor in 2013 do you ever get feedback from young fans aspiring to reach your level of stardom? What guidance do you give them?

I tell them to really work on their craft to become great at it so that when the opportunity comes they can go for it without any hesitation.

Who is your Favourite female singer for singing along to in the shower?

Tones and I.

You work with ‘Compassion’ Australia to sponsor children around the world and sponsored your first child when you were 17. What inspired you to care for these children and how many kids do you sponsor in total?

I heard about Compassion and what they do on the radio. I love that fact that it allows you to be doing something everyday to help children living in poverty by being a sponsor.. Even though I can't be there in person my sponsorship allows somebody on ground to really take care of children in need …

To date in your incredible career nothing has held you back and you have had success at every turn, what do you feel is your greatest achievement?

I always have loved and still love being able to write and share my music with the world.
